THE BARI "EUROPEAN URBAN
WORKSHOP"
IN ITS FIRST EIGHT
YEARS
Founded by architect Eugenio Lombardi as a
social consulting Association in 1993, the "Laboratorio Urbano"
Research Centre started its activities in 1994. It has been this year
transformed as the "European Urban Workshop" and is fully operating
as a non-profit Association.The Association is now going towards a
permanent collaboration with a network of European partners.
Among the main activities:
- - the idea (by arch. Lombardi) of the "Cultural Citadel"
within the restored area of the former Town Sloughter-house; the
project is now under realization by the Ministry of Culture;
- - the idea (by arch. Lombardi) of the restoration of the old
St. Nicholas' Dock;
- - the cultural program for the re-use of the old villas in the
town periphery;
- - the project of "adoption" of monuments in collaboration with
some local schools: the Russian Church with the "Cirillo"
Secondary School and the Montello Primary School;
- - the proposal of participated planning fro the urban
restoration of a slum area, in collaboration with the "Montello"
Primary School;
- - 90 free sightseeings in the old town;
- - three edition of " Art&Music in the Old Town";
- - "The Week of the Arts" from May 9th to 18th, with
international exhibitions of architecture, concerts in the old
churches and squares, visual arts performances;
- - over 40 concerts in the old churches od the down town;
- - the project "The children and their district: an open
dialogue towards a "possible" town, in collaboration with 15 local
schools;
- - the photo exhibition "The Seasons in the Great North", by
Eugenio Lombardi;
- - the symposium "The urban restoration and the Contractor's
reconversion;
- - six editions of " The Friendship Painting";
- - participation in the summer 1998 to the European project
"Childhood Space" in Karkkila (Finland), as a Kaleidoscope
Program;
- the first and second edition of the "European Friendship Train
";
- the industrial design exhibition of Kari Asikainen's
works;
- the third edition of the "European Friendship Train " is now
under development.
